Previewing UFC 264

On July 10th UFC 264 will be the highlight pay per view of the year for mixed martial arts (MMA). The Notorious Conor McGregor (22-5) will be making his return to the octagon for the trilogy fight versus Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier (27-6). This bout has implications for the victor receiving a UFC Lightweight World Championship (155lbs) title shot versus current champion, Charles Olivera. Conor and Dustin have fought twice before, each competitor earning a victory by knockout. With each fighter having a win over the other, this third fight holds a lot of value especially with a championship fight on the line. Both fighters are strikers and have a combined 18 knockouts in the UFC. They both will be looking for a knockout finish. In their last fight Conor was paid 5 million dollars plus pay per view shares while Dustin was paid 1 million with very few pay per view shares. Based on popularity, summer, and less COVID restrictions, their purses should be larger this time around.

Watch the first two fights here:

The co-main event for UFC 264 is a very important fight when considering the next challenger for the UFC Welterweight Championship (170lbs). Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson (16-4) will fight Gilbert Burns (19-4). These are two of the best fighters in the world. Wonderboy is a fan favorite fighter who uses a karate style of fighting which is very rare in the UFC. He is looking to get a win on July 10th which would hopefully turn into a title shot versus Kamaru Usman. Usman, who is the current champion, has already beaten most of the top fights in the Welterweight division including Colby Covington, Gilbert Burns, Jorge Masvidal, and Leon Edwards. Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson is the only top ranked fighter that Usman hasn't beaten. If Wonderboy can beat Gilbert Burns I believe that a championship fight is in his future and that fight would be amazing.

The July 10th UFC 264 card also has popular fighters like Sean O'Malley, Greg Hardy, Tia Tuivasa, Carlos Condit, and Michel Pereira fighting.
